Africa - 10 flagship energy access project

Published on

Access to reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity is a key driver of economic and social development. Despite significant progress in recent years, universal access to electricity across the continent remains a structural challenge: more than 600 million Africans still lack reliable and regular access to energy, making the electrification of the continent a major priority for the AFD Group.

In response to this challenge, the Group works closely with its international partners and contributes in particular to the implementation of the Mission 300 initiative. Led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group, this program aims to connect 300 million people to electricity by 2030. In this context, AFD is implementing France’s commitment to mobilize one billion euros in support of this objective.

Through its financing, expertise, and partnerships, the AFD Group strengthens electricity infrastructure, supports innovation, and deploys solutions tailored to African contexts in order to accelerate access to electricity and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.
