Luca Tausch is a PhD candidate in Development Economics at Université Paris Nanterre and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). His research focuses on Ecological Structuralism, in particular through the macroeconomic modelling tool ESTEEM.
Luca Tausch primarily works on input-output analysis and dynamic macroeconomic models to identify the main challenges and constraints that peripheral economies face during their ecological transition.
His doctoral thesis focuses on Ecological Structuralism, linking ecological economics and Latin American Structuralism in the context of the green transition. Using macroeconomic modelling tools such as static and dynamic input-output approaches, he aims to identify potential pathways that enable peripheral countries to overcome their dependency relation, while simultaneously transitioning toward an environmentally sustainable economy.
Luca Tausch holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Hofstra University (New York, USA), completing an undergraduate thesis focusing on a critique of the marginal productivity theory through the work of Thomas Piketty. He then pursued a double Master's degree in Economics as part of the Erasmus Mundus programme EPOG at Roma Tre University and Sorbonne Paris Nord University, specializing in international macroeconomics, financial regulation, and sustainability. His Master's thesis focused on the theory of ecologically unequal exchange between and within countries, with a particular emphasis on China's economic development.
Following studies, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics, contributing to the assessment of the geopolitical risks associated with critical minerals. Before starting his CIFRE PhD at the French Development Agency (AFD) and Université Paris Nanterre, he worked as a macroeconomic modeller at AFD, contributing to the development of capital-use matrices for the dynamic macroeconomic model ESTEEM and to the analysis of the macroeconomic risks of the low-carbon transition in Latin America.
