Sustainability statement: AFD Group’s transparency initiative
Published on
With the publication of its first sustainability statement – produced on a voluntary basis ahead of the legal requirements that will apply from 2028 – AFD Group has reached a new milestone in transparency and accountability.
The sustainability statement meets the requirements of the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The report is based on a robust materiality assessment that simultaneously evaluates the impact of the Group’s activities on society and the environment, as well as the effect of sustainability issues on its own financial performance. It highlights the Group’s positive environmental, social, and governance impacts while improving the reliability of its reported data.
At the heart of this approach is one conviction: the positive outcomes of projects for people in the countries where AFD Group operates are the ultimate purpose of the Group’s work. This ambition shapes the Group’s three main strategic priorities: to preserve the planet, to strengthen social and civic ties, and to consolidate institutions and democracy.
In 2025, the Group reaffirmed its leading role with €7.8 billion in climate finance and €1.3 billion in financing with a positive impact on biodiversity. The report also highlights operational and internal ambitions, including improving the reliability of the carbon footprint assessment, offsetting internal emissions, rolling out a responsible procurement roadmap, and advancing the Green IT initiative for more sustainable digital practices. These actions are already under way and will continue in 2026 with the definition of a low-carbon trajectory.
AFD Group also works to support fairer and more equal societies through projects focused on reducing multidimensional inequalities and promoting inclusion and gender equality, which is an explicit objective of 68% of projects. For its own staff, the Group is implementing an ambitious social policy focused on quality of life at work, skills development, and social protection. It also reaffirms that governance and integrity are central to its work in an international environment where the risks of corruption, non-compliance, and reputational damage require constant vigilance.
Beyond the goals of transparency and accountability, this first sustainability statement is intended to support the strategic steering of AFD Group through a process of continuous improvement.
